About the Club
Ipswich Rugby League's first game of Rugby League played in Ipswich was on 9th October 1909. The game was played at the North Ipswich Reserve and was between a Brisbane side and a side selected from the Ipswich Rugby Union players, Brisbane winning 43 to 10. Affiliation with the Queensland Rugby League was arranged the following year.
J. G. Stephenson was considered the father of Rugby League in Ipswich during the twenties and thirties. He was the President of the Queensland Rugby League from 1935? to 1941.
The Ipswich Rugby League was incorporated in 1992 and is responsible for all senior Rugby League in the Ipswich area. It is part of Queensland Rugby League South East Division.
Teams fielded include the Cyril Connell and Mal Meninga Diggers Squad and Opens Diggers Squad.
